  1. July 2017 to present.Korea Coast Guard (within the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as an independent and external agency)
    March 2022.Sacheon Coast Guard station was established.
    November 2017.Uljin Coast Guard station was established.
    July 2017.The Korea Coast Guard was promoted to an independent and external agency.

  2. November 2014 to July 2017.Korea Coast Guard (under Ministry of Public Safety and Security as a subordinate agency)
    April 2017.Five West Sea Islands Guard Unit was established.
    April 2016.Buan Coast Guard station was established.
    November 2015.The East Coast Guard Special Rescue Team and the West Coast Guard Special Rescue team were established.
    November 2014.Korea Coast Guard was reorganized under Ministry of Public Safety and Security. The Central Regional Cosat Guard and the Korea Coast Guard Special Rescue Unit were established.

  3. March 2013 to November 2014.Korea Coast Guard (affiliated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries)
    March 2014.The Boryeong Coast Guard Station was established.
    November 2013.The Korea Coast Guard Education Center was reorganized as the Korea Coast Guard Academy.
    March 2013.The Korea Coast Guard became affiliated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

  4. February 2008 to March 2013.Korea Coast Guard (affiliated with the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs)
    December 2012.The Changwon Coast Guard Station was established within the Southern Regional Coast Guard.
    June 2012.The Jeju Regional Coast Guard Station was established. The affiliation of the Ulsan Coast Guard Station was moved from the Eastern to the Southern Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and the Jeju and Seogwipo Coast Guard Stations from the Southern Regional Coast Guard to the Jeju Regional Coast Guard.
    March 2011.Pyeongtaek Coast Guard Station was established.
    August 2008.The Seogwipo Coast Guard Station was established within the Southern Regional Coast Guard.
    August 2008.Affiliation of the Korea Coast Guard was changed from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

  5. August 1996 to February 2008.Korea Coast Guard (affiliated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries)
    March 2007.The Korea Coast Guard R&D Center was established as a subsidiary organization of the Korea Coast Guard.
    November 2006.The Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Donghae, Mokpo and Busan were reorganized into Eastern, Western, and Southern Regional Coast Guard Headquarters. The Incheon Regional Coast Guard Headquarters was closed with the Incheon Regional Coast Guard Station and reorganized into an organization affiliated with the central office.
    February 2006.Regional Coast Guard Headquarters were established in Incheon, Mokpo, Busan and Donghae.
    July 2005.The rank of the head of the Korea Coast Guard is promoted from the Chief Superintendent General to the Commissioner General.
    January 2004.The Korea Coast Guard Academy was established.
    July 2002.The five Branch Units of the Wando Regional Coast Guard were reorganized as Police Substation, paving the way to the establishment of Branch Office.
    October 1999.The Pyeongtaek Coast Guard Branch Unit was established.
    August 1996.The Korea Coast Guard became an independent government agency while maintaining its affiliation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

  6. July 1991 to August 1996.The Korea Coast Guard (affiliated with the National Police Agency)
    September 1995.Maintenance Center was reorganized as an organization affiliated with the Korea Coast Guard.
    December 1992.The Coast Guard Branch Units were established in Samcheonpo, Geomundo and Daejeon.
    October 1992.The Ulsan Coast Guard Station was established.
    July 1991.The Wando Coast Guard Branch Unit was established.
    July 1991.The Maritime Police Force was reorganized as the Korea Coast Guard under the National Police Agency. The reformation turned the Maintenance Center into an agency under the direct control of the head of the Coast Guard, the Regional Marine Units into Coast Guard Stations, and the Branch Units to Coast Guard Branch Units.

  7. December 1953 to July 1991.Maritime Police Force / Coast Guard (affiliated with the Ministry of Home Affairs / Ministry of Commerce and Industry)
    July 1990.The Management Department of the Maritime Police Force was reorganized as the Maintenance Center.
    December 1988.The Anheung Regional Marine Unit was established. Geojin, Ulsan, Seogwipo and Masan Branch Units were established.
    January 1984.The Maritime Police Force began to operate its own dockyard under the Maintenance Supply Department.
    May 1982.The Chungmu Regional Marine Unit was established.
    November 1980.The Mukho Regional Marine Unit was renamed as the Donghae Regional Marine Unit.
    October 1979.The office of the Maritime Police Force was moved to a new building located in Bukseong-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon-si.
    August 1978.The Maritime Police Force became affiliated with the Minister of Home Affairs.
    June 1972.The Busan Regional Marine Unit was established. The Yeonpyeong Regional Marine Unit was closed.
    May 1972.The Marine Units of the Maritime Police Force were reorganized as Regional Marine Units.
    July 1971.The Maritime Police Force Training Unit was established.
    July 1969.The Marine Units were established in Sokcho and Yeonpyeong.
    February 1964.The Maritime Police Force was moved to the office newly built in Daecheong-dong, Dong-gu, Busan.
    October 1962.New Marine Units were established in Incheon, Gunsan, Pohang, Mukho and Yeosu.
    May 1962.The Coast Guard was reorganized as the Maritime Police Force within the Law Enforcement Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs.
    November 1957.The Marine Units in Incheon, Gunsan, Pohang and Mukho were closed.
    July 1957.Busan Marine Unit was closed.
    February 1955.The Maritime Police Force was reorganized as the Marine Guards under the Maritime Business Agency, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
