KCG attended the 21st NPCGF Summit virtually
Writer 황재희 Date 2021.09.17

Delegations from the coast guards from six North Pacific countries met virtually in order to discuss critical issues including maritime emergencies, illegal migration and drug smuggling, maritime terrorism, and illegal fisheries.

The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) announced that it attended the 21st North Pacific Coast Guard Forum (NPCGF) Summit virtually hosted by the USCG for three days from September 14 to 16, 2021.

The annual event, which is participated by South Korea, the United States, Canada, Japan, China and Russia, was orginally scheduled to be held in San Francisco this year, but went virtual held due to the global spread of COVID-19. Through discussions and presentations by seven working groups, the paticipants shared their ideas on how to cooperate with each other in the face of new challenges.

A KCG officer said that "It was a great opportunity to reaffirm the importance of mutual cooperation for maritime safety and securty at a time when it's difficult for the member countries to engage in exchange activities," adding that "Through this meeting, we will further strengthen cooperation with our partner coast guard agencies in order to protect the lives and properties of our citizens in the North Pacific area."

The NPCGF is held on a rotation basis in six member states, and is scheduled to be held in South Korea next year.
